Sam Taylor started in cannabis in 2009 and was featured on CNBC’s “Marijuana USA” as a co-owner of Centennial Seeds at the age of 22. Since then, she’s founded the lifestyle subscription service HempBox, produced an award winning game show, and now runs The Grow-Off full time in multiple legalized states across the country.
Johanna Silver, Author of Growing Weed in the Garden
Johanna is a James Beard Award-winning author who writes mostly about plants and people. Johanna is a contributing editor at Better Homes & Gardens and is a regular contributor to Martha Stewart Living and The San Francisco Chronicle. Previously, Johanna spent ten years Sunset Magazine, beginning with a shovel in her hands and culminating as head of the garden department. In 2016, she oversaw the creation of new editorial test gardens as part of the brand’s historic move from Menlo Park to Oakland and Sonoma. Her two books, The Bold Dry Garden: Lessons from the Ruth Bancroft Garden (Timber Press) and Growing Weed in the Garden: A No-Fuss, Seed-to-Stash Guide to Outdoor Cannabis Cultivation (Abrams) are available everywhere books are sold.
Damian Solomon, Plant Geek Consulting
Damian has over 20 years of experience in greenhouse management, traditional horticulture and controlled environment growing systems. He has worked for companies like Eurofresh Farms (North America’s largest hydroponic greenhouse operation), Grimmway Farms (North America’s largest farming company), and DeRuiter Seeds/Monsanto (global seed company specializing in greenhouse specific vegetable seeds). Since 2014 he has been involved in the commercial cannabis industry as Director of Cutlivation & Ag Technology for Medmen where he leveraged his vast experience in controlled environments to bring best-of-class procedures, processes and technology into the cannabis space. Recently, Damian left Medmen to start his own horticultural consulting company, Plant Geek Consulting, LLC as he saw a compelling opportunity to offer his years of understanding, insight and horticultural expertise to his clients. He has travelled the world visiting greenhouses and speaking with growers to share agronomic advice and experience and provide high-level consulting services. Damian is well known in the industry and considered an expert in the field of controlled environment agriculture. Mr. Solomon was awarded a BS in Plant Sciences/Crop Production from the University of Arizona’s College of Agriculture. In 2015, he was recognized by University of Arizona’s College of Agriculture and awarded the CEAC Mission Award for outstanding leadership and exemplary service in Controlled Environment Agriculture. Damian is forward thinking and loves to blend the art of growing crops with applied technology to optimize results.
Julia Jacobson, CEO of Aster Farms
As CEO of Aster Farms, Julia brings an expertise in entrepreneurship, supply chain management and business development to the Aster Farm’s team. Her personal interest in cannabis is rooted in her battle with chronic migraines, incorporating the plant with her prescribed routine to mitigate symptoms, balance equilibrium and chart a healthy course. Julia develops Aster’s high-level vision, ensuring the team is two steps ahead as the company scales. Prior to Aster Farms Julia was co-founder and CEO of NMRKT, an affiliate marketing platform for content providers. She led the company through Techstars and it’s acquisition by XO Group in 2016, where she went on to be the Director of National Revenue Products. Julia’s career began as a buyer for Bloomingdale’s, giving her a solid foundation in retail and supply chain economics. Julia is a thought leader in the cannabis space and has spoken on panels including SXSW, SheCANN, Females to the Front and Weed Week. Today, she continues to be a mentor to young entrepreneurs in many fields. She has been featured in The Economist, Forbes, Dope Magazine, High Times and Civilized Magazine.
